ESES volunteers complete ear & hearing outreach in Turkana
A team of eight ESES surgeons and audiologists ran a week-long free ear-and-hearing camp in Lodwar, screening over 300 patients and performing 42 ear procedures.
A team of eight Society for Endoscopic Sinus & Ear Surgery volunteers — four ENT surgeons, two trainees and two audiologists — has returned from a week-long ear-and-hearing outreach camp at Lodwar County Referral Hospital in Turkana.
Working alongside local clinical staff, the team screened more than 300 patients, ran ear and hearing clinics, fitted hearing aids, and performed 42 procedures ranging from grommet insertion to myringoplasty and examination-under-microscope for chronic ear disease.
"Outreach like this is the heart of what ESES stands for," said the mission lead. "A child with glue ear or a farmer with a discharging ear should not have to travel to Nairobi. We are grateful to the hospital team, our volunteers, and the ESES Endoscopy Equipment Fund for making it possible."
The society plans two further outreach camps in 2026. Members interested in volunteering can register their interest through the member portal.
